Emotions as Invitations

Your challenging emotions are not in the way of your life.

They ARE your life.

Taking care of the waves of your emotions- the highs and the lows, the various shades, the nuances, the gradient… is your obligation, and also your birthright.

We need to attend to them and care for them like a parent- and that is a full-time job.

Some days, they quietly tuck away, and we love them from a distant.

Some days, they scream loud, and we have no choice but to suspend other activities and ride the wave.

Each one is an invitation.

Like little humans, they only respond to love and attention.

Sometimes, adequate discipline is needed too- this is when we put a ‘stop’ sign on the over-indulgence or enmeshment with a feeling. But most of the time, they need our care and attention.

Don’t resent them. This is your life, and this is your full-time job.

Your emotions are not here to take away for your life, but here to invite you to live into your life.

“Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”

- Rumi

THIS WEEK’S EXPERIMENT: THE MESSAGES IN YOUR FEELINGS

Take 3-5 deep breaths.

Tune into your body.

Notice where in your body you are experiencing a stuck emotion that you are resisting.

Place your hand on this part of you, see if you can soften into it.

Now, notice any vision, sensations, movement.

Create a visual representation of your emotion.

When it feels finished, sit back and reflect.

If it had a name what would it be called?

If it could speak what would it say to you?

What does it need from you?
